  • Surrey Art School RH5 5DL (map)

Creating a stunning Ceramic planter for your summer garden and learn an age old ceramic hand building technique (coiling) in this fab introductory workshop led by our wonderful Jo Hannah.

Using red earthenware clay (Terracotta) you will produce produce an outdoor plant pot for your garden. You'll learn a technique called ‘coiling’ the size of which will depend on how high you manage to build during the workshop! Coiling involves using your hands to roll uniform coils or ropes of clay which when joined together will create the form of your planter.

You will be shown how to construct a base and how to join all the component parts together to form the finished shape.

Planters can be decorated using a variety of tools to make patterns or markings. This is a very relaxing workshop using a simple technique and you will be guided through every step of the way!

All materials and tools are provided and your booking fee includes the firing of your work - which will be available for collection at a later date. You will be informed when your work is ready for collection.

Jo Hannah is an experienced 'maker' whose creative practice with clay explores the beauty of natural materials - undergoing state changes  through firing and becoming beautiful, robust rustic pieces made or raised by a gentle hand. Jo is a great believer in the therapeutic qualities of working with clay and her workshops are calm and mindful.
