Join SAS founder Ellie Green on a voyage of discovery using a very simple print process - mono-printing - in a new and exciting way that will change the way you think about print and enable you to capture the stunning flora of the Spring season!

Join experienced artist teacher and SAS founder Ellie Green for a comprehensive introduction to the Lino Printing process suitable for absolute beginners.

Linoleum is one of the most versatile materials for creating a long-lasting print block.

During this workshop you'll explore the range of options available for designing and carving a print block - exploring not only carving techniques, but how to get the most out of both the positive and negative space in your design. 

Ellie will also offer guidance on the types of ink available to you (we only work with non-toxic vegetable oil based inks - professional quality with beautiful vibrant pigments) and how to work safely with them. We will explore both hand-printing methods and press-based practice through the workshop.

Led by experimental artist-printmaker Paul Wye (MA Printmaking) you will commit to 6 sessions throughout the year that will give you time to gain vital verbal and practical feedback in your practice and to develop depth and dimension in the way you work with print.

This unique masterclass allows you access to one of our true local talents. Jane will introduce you to some of her work and her working methods using the wet-on-wet watercolour technique.

You will receive practical guidance on how to wet your paper, add colour, subtract certain areas - working with artist quality pigments and watching them spread loosely across the page.

Join us for a mindful morning in the forest where we’ll slow things down and take time drink in our surroundings with a winter inspired woodland inks workshops led by Surrey Art School founder Ellie Green. We’ll start with ‘mindful looking’ using our eyes to scan the bare branches of the trees, looking for texture, changes in colour, light and noticing where the shadows fall. We’ll spend the rest of the morning creating dreamy winter studies of the woodland – playing with washes and working with a range of different brushes and brush strokes to capture our surroundings. The theme for the Autumn term is Science and Art and we'll be encouraging our students to act as 'polymaths' making links through their practice between exploring the natural world and learning to record it through drawing, painting, print-making, paper making and book-binding.

Join us for a voyage of discovery with our fabulous 3D specialist where you will learn the art of botanical casting, working with clay and plaster to create incredibly detailed relief casts to take home!

In drawing, if you can master the sphere, the cylander and the cube, you have the core skills needed to record ANYTHING - from a still life object, to a landscape or a portrait.

These basic shapes form the core of all form and in this Masterclass you'll gain a whole technical toolkit to help you record them - from learning to control a range of basic art materials, to understanding how light hits an object, to measuring, proportion and much more.

This technical booster will teach you how to see an object properly and will incorporate photography techniques to improve accuracy. A teacher at secondary level for over 8 years, Ellie has a good understanding of what is and isn't taught in school and will be there to help plug those gaps, challenge misconceptions and get you feeling confident in recording from observation.

From working with soft shading, to building up texture using cross-hatching and through drawing challenges such as 'how to draw glass' you'll come away with a clearer understanding of how to develop your technical skill and to really show the world through your eyes.

Learn how to create a beautiful framed plaster cast wall hanging to adorn your home.

Working with clay to create a mould and using natural materials to make impressions into the clay, you will learn how to work safely with plaster - from mixing to the right consistency, to understanding how making impressions into clay will add depth and dimension to the surface of your cast.

You'll work on a series of test-pieces initially, refining your practice as you go through the process and then learn how to upcycle an old frame to create a contemporary cast that you can hang in your home and keep forever.
