Join us for a mindful morning in the forest where we’ll slow things down and take time drink in our surroundings with a winter inspired woodland inks workshops led by Surrey Art School founder Ellie Green. We’ll start with ‘mindful looking’ using our eyes to scan the bare branches of the trees, looking for texture, changes in colour, light and noticing where the shadows fall. We’ll spend the rest of the morning creating dreamy winter studies of the woodland – playing with washes and working with a range of different brushes and brush strokes to capture our surroundings. Full guided tuition from Ellie and suitable for absolute beginners.

Under the guidance of SAS Founder Ellie Green you’ll learn how to create beautiful hand-burnished mono-prints using the surrounding woodland as inspiration. You’ll be working with vegetable oil based inks that are totally non-toxic and create stunning photographic results. You’ll come away with multiple prints from leaves, feathers and whatever else you can find on the forest floor, taking a little bit of the beautiful woodland home with you on the day. Following the printing workshop, we’ll sit down at our shared dining table beneath the trees for a 2-course lunch, cooked over an open fire.

This season we’ve teamed up with Renee Canter (aka The Girl Who Gardens) to design seasonal Autumn and Winter Wreath Making workshops that reflect the beauty that each season brings and are a little kinder to nature too. Traditional wreaths, although stunning and super popular, are by nature not particularly eco-friendly - see Renee’s Environmental Wreath Manifesto here for more.

We are so lucky to live in an area where woodland is abundant and there is so much we can gather from the forest floor to inspire our wreath-making this winter. As with our hedgerow wreaths we’ll be taking a more eco-friendly approach to the traditional wreath - creating a moss and wire base to adorn with sustainably foraged materials.

Knit Yourself Calm Course

This season we are delighted to welcome back top class knitter Sarah North to the studio for a developmental knitting course that will teach you, session by session, how to create a range of stitches and knit yourself calm with this step by step programme. This course is suitable for absolute beginners and comes with a full starter knit kit!

Sessions will be calm and friendly with a tutor on hand to support your learning.
