Sketchbook Club FAQ’s
I’m a beginner, can I join Sketchbook Club?
Yes!
Sketchbook Club is suitable for all levels - if you’re a beginner or are low in confidence we recommend joining Sketch Community for tutor and peer-feedback on your creative journey!
If you’re a complete beginner with drawing, have no foundation skills or are really low in confidence it might be better to take our Learn to Draw course first and start your journey with us there. You can always join us here at a later stage!
What time is the class?
Whenever works for you!
There are no LIVE lessons in Sketchbook Club. All lessons are pre-recorded so you can access them in your own time, at your own pace and you can watch and re-watch them until your heart’s content! This means you don’t need to show up to class on a particular day or at a particular time. Tuesday is our check in day at Sketchbook Club so any new tutorials and content will be uploaded monthly on Tuesdays during term time.
Is Sketchbook Club just for Adults? Do you do classes for kids?
No !
Everyone is welcome to join our creative community!
Sketchbook Club is suitable for both Adults and Families - subscription is per household so your partner or family are welcome to join in too! We don’t offer specific classes for kids as we believe all the activities we offer are accessible artists of any age.
We love seeing families work together on projects!
Can my family / flatmates join in the classes with me?
Yes!
Each Sketchbook Club booking is per household meaning anyone under your roof can also join in the tutorials with you. If you’re a regular subscriber you’ll get one subscription box per household.
Do I have to buy a Sketchbook?
Nope!
Buying a Sketchbook from us is optional however our Sketchbooks have been specifically selected for the quality of paper and number of pages.
All the paper is our Sketchbooks is Extra Wet strength, all media acid free cartridge paper and the weight is 140 GSM meaning it can handle most wet and dry materials!
If you’re just joining us for a season, our A4 Softback Sketchbook is a great choice. If you’re joining us for more than one season then opt for the Large Square Sketchbook and you’ll have loads of pages to play with and plenty of space for experimentation.
What kit do I need if I’m starting Sketchbook Club for the first time?
If you’re completely new to Sketchbook Club this year - this is our list of recommended kit list that you will need to have in order to complete the lessons. Chances are you’ll have some of this at home already but if not, you can pop to the Art Shop to stock up on supplies once you’ve signed up and received your welcome email!
A Sketchbook, A 2B pencil and a rubber - in the Autumn / Winter we tend to work with either an A4 softback sketchbook or a large Square sketchbook. In the summer, our favorite Sketchbook is the Octopus sketchbook.
A basic set of pan watercolour paints and a watercolour brush
Drawing ink & Dip Pen OR 0.5 Fine liner
Carbon Paper or Tracedown Paper (great for beginners) and Watercolour Paper (useful later in the project!)
This is a basic kit list. You may like to pick up extra materials along the way & this is why we offer a discount code with your subscription to Sketchbook Club.
How long will I have access to the Sketchbook Club Learning Portal for?
You will have lifetime access to class content and resources from your sign up date - this means you can access the project (s) in your own time at your own pace. Please save the current season learning portal URL and password in a safe place so that you can revisit the content after the season ends. Please note: Access to the current season / future seasons will be revoked if you fail to complete all the payments for that season. Please see full booking t’s and c’s here.
What’s the difference between ‘Lite’ and ‘Community’ ?
When you sign up to the Sketch Community option you’ll be offered free access to our private online community group on Facebook where you’ll be able to share your creative journey with fellow Sketchbook Clubbers and gain feedback on your work from our 2 expert sketch tutors.
