Paper Bead Jewellery

  • Surrey Art School Dean House Farm, Newdigate RH5 5DL (map)

Mindful making is the perfect out-breath for our busy lives;

Shoulders relax, stresses fall away, and our natural breath returns with renewed calm…

Join us for an introduction to the calming meditative process of creating hand rolled paper beads. Being mindful of waste we’ll use a variety of discarded papers and create your very own piece of upcycled jewellery.

Upcycling and botanical dye artist Ginny will show you how to choose, prepare, roll and secure the paper as you create some basic oval beads to practice the process. Once you feel confident, she will guide you in exploring some more complex bead shapes.

Using this newly learned skill you will then, with Ginny’s support, design either a necklace, bracelet or earrings. Ginny will help you choose or create painted papers inspired by your favourite colours or a chosen theme and support you to create your own unique piece of wearable art.

You will also learn a clever simple stringing technique and learn how to create a button and loop fastening to finish your piece.

All materials are included but please feel free to bring any papers / maps, old books or old broken jewellery that you may like to add to your creation.
