Break up the week with our Sketchbook art class, suitable for absolute beginners to any level. A chance to meet and make regularly and get back into your creative flow. Make art, drink tea,  talk art, talk life, meet others and make in our cosy studio. Each week we will work on a different aspect of art practice and fill our sketchbooks with creative experiments.

You will be given a sketchbook with your first class and our skills based sessions will improve your technical skill and inspire new ways of working that harness confidence and creativity.

No pressure, lots of laughter and plenty of time to reflect on the week.

Calling all young artists - either studying Art for GCSE or who just love the subject and would like to take their practice a little more seriously but in a fun and exploratory way. If you have an aspiring creative who isn't getting the input they need to grow - send them our way and we'll provide bespoke support that complements the curriculum in school but also enable greater creative freedom and initiative!

Age range: Year 10, Year 11 (and early entry GCSE/Scholarship)

This summer we’re taking some of our very best technical workshops ‘out and about’ using the stunning Surrey Hills as the backdrop for our summer school for budding artists passionate about sharpening their pencils and their focus with our blend of mindfulness and creativity.

ZEN DRAWING WORKSHOP

Wednesday 24th July 2019 / 10:00 to 13:00 / Leith Hill Place

Drawing is about more than simply picking up a pencil - how do I hold it? What marks can it make? What is the difference between a B and a H. This zen drawing workshop has been an absolute hit with our adult learners as it breaks down a vocabulary of marks into a simple format to help us better understand just what our pencil can do and what to do with it!

This season we are inviting you to meet with Ebru for a calming and mindful introduction to the magical art of painting on water. Ebru - also known as cloud-painting for the way that the paint clouds as it spreads across the water - is an ancient art-form originating in Turkey and dating back to as early as the 15th Century. Of course we’ll be adding a contemporary twist to the outcomes we produce, but the rest of the experience will be as authentic as it gets folks!

 Bee Painting Masterclass with Jane Davies
2pm - 4pm

Spring is coming and we're ready to bring a little lightness and brightness to Jane's beginner's Masterclasses this season!

This unique masterclass allows you access to one of our true local talents. Jane will introduce you to some of her work and her working methods using the wet-on-wet watercolour technique. She will teach you step by step how to draw out. colour and finish a simple bee study over the course of the afternoon.

In drawing, if you can master the sphere, the cylander and the cube, you have the core skills needed to record ANYTHING - from a still life object, to a landscape or a portrait.

These basic shapes form the core of all form and in this Masterclass you'll gain a whole technical toolkit to help you record them - from learning to control a range of basic art materials, to understanding how light hits an object, to measuring, proportion and much more.

This technical booster will teach you how to see an object properly and will incorporate photography techniques to improve accuracy. A teacher at secondary level for over 8 years, Ellie has a good understanding of what is and isn't taught in school and will be there to help plug those gaps, challenge misconceptions and get you feeling confident in recording from observation.

From working with soft shading, to building up texture using cross-hatching and through drawing challenges such as 'how to draw glass' you'll come away with a clearer understanding of how to develop your technical skill and to really show the world through your eyes.
