Weaving Development Course

Following on from her beginner’s workshops, Susannah Bolton is back with a full day of weaving inspired by more contemporary approaches to designing and making a tapestry weaving.

You’ll begin by looking at and discussing textile artworks by contemporary makers - learning how to translate these sources of information into a design for a weave.

This exploratory and experimental day course will allow you access to some unusual weaving materials that can bring structure and texture to your weaving practice. You will explore non-traditional materials including found natural objects such as feathers and plants, or manmade materials like fabric strips or fishing twine. You’ll learn how to secure these to your piece before reflecting on the materials explored in order to plan and weave a new composition inspired by these materials.

As usual Susannah will bring to the table her extensive and unique collection of vintage yarns for you to pick and choose from as you work. Bring your own loom along or if you’ve yet to purchase your own, ask and we’ll lend you one for the session.
